== Biographie ==
Il est le fils de William Poyntz (décédé en 1809) et de son épouse Isabella (décédée en 1805), fille et co-héritière de Kelland Courtenay. Ses beaux-frères et cousins germains sont [[Edmund Boyle (8e comte de Cork)|Edmund Boyle, 8th Earl of Cork]], et le vice-amiral Sir Courtenay Boyle.

Il fait ses études à [[Christ Church (Oxford)|Christ Church, Oxford]] <ref name="peerage">Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (given 1, expected 2)</ref>.

En juin 1800, il est élu lors d'une élection partielle en tant que député de [[St Albans (circonscription britannique)|St Albans]] et occupe le siège jusqu'aux [[Élections générales britanniques de 1807|élections générales de 1807]] <ref name="stooks-smith"></ref>. Il est ensuite élu député de Callington lors d'une élection partielle en avril 1810 et occupe le siège jusqu'aux [[Élections générales britanniques de 1818|élections générales de 1818]] <ref>Stooks Smith, page 481</ref>. En février 1823, il est élu lors d'une élection partielle en tant que député de [[Chichester (circonscription britannique)|Chichester]] et occupe le siège jusqu'aux [[Élections générales britanniques de 1830|élections générales de 1830]] <ref>Stooks Smith, pages 335-336</ref>. En mars 1831, il est élu lors d'une élection partielle comme député d'Ashburton où il est réélu en [[Élections générales britanniques de 1831|mai 1831]] et occupe le siège jusqu'aux [[Élections générales britanniques de 1835|élections générales de 1835]] <ref>Stooks Smith, page 64</ref> lorsqu'il est élu député de Midhurst <ref>Stooks Smith, pages 345-346</ref>. == Vie privée ==
Le 1er septembre 1794, Poyntz épouse l'hon. Elizabeth Mary Browne, fille d'Anthony Browne, 7e vicomte Montagu, et sœur et héritière de son frère le 8e vicomte. Ils vivaient à Midgham House dans le [[Berkshire]] et à Cowdray Park dans le [[Sussex de l'Ouest|West Sussex]]. Ils ont plusieurs enfants. Leurs deux fils se sont noyés à [[Bognor Regis]] le 7 juillet 1815. Seules deux de leurs filles ont eu une descendance:

== Verleihung und nachgeordnete Titel ==
Der Titel wurde am 1. Juli 1720 von König [[Georg I. (Großbritannien)|Georg I.]] für den aus den englischen Juristen und Unterhausabgeordneten [[John Barrington, 1. Viscount Barrington|John Barrington]], geschaffen. Zusammen mit der [[Viscount (Adelstitel)|Viscountwürde]] wurde ihm der nachgeordnete Titel ''Baron Barrington'', of Newcastle in the County of Limerick, verliehen.

Seinem Urenkel, dem 7. Viscount, wurde am 17. April 1880 zudem in der [[Peerage of the United Kingdom]] der Titel ''Baron Shute'', of Becket in the County of Berkshire, verliehen, mit dem besonderen Zusatz, dass dieser in Ermangelung eigener männlicher Nachkommen auch an seinen Bruder Percy Barrington und dessen männliche Nachkommen vererbbar sei. Da der 7. Viscount kinderlos blieb, erbte sein Bruder entsprechend alle drei Titel als 8. Viscount.

Die Titel erloschen schließlich beim kinderlosen Tod von dessen Urenkel, dem 11. Viscount, am 6. April 1990.

Bartholomew (or Barthélemy) d'Arabin de Barcelle (d. 1713), was the son of an influential merchant from Riez in the present-day Alpes-de-Haute region of Provence, belonging to one of the oldest families in [[Provence]]. O [[sequestro]] ocorreu de 21 para [[22 de janeiro]] de [[1961]], por um grupo de 23 exilados políticos portugueses e espanhóis - integrantes da [[Direção Revolucionária Ibérica de Libertação]] (DRIL) -, que então faziam oposição política aos governos ditatoriais de [[António de Oliveira Salazar]] e de [[Francisco Franco]], sob o comando do capitão [[Henrique Galvão]] e de [[Jorge de Soutomayor]], desencadeando a chamada '''Operação Dulcineia'''. Um dos oficiais de bordo ofereceu resistência e foi morto a tiro; os restantes renderam-se. O paquete mudou de rumo e partiu em direcção a África. Henrique Galvão queria dirigir-se à ilha espanhola de [[Bioko|Fernando Pó]], no [[golfo da Guiné]], e a partir daí atacar [[Luanda]], que seria o ponto de partida para o derrube dos governos de [[Lisboa]] e [[Madrid]]. Um plano [[Megalomania|megalómano]] e [[Dom Quixote|quixotesco]], condenado ao fracasso, mas que chamaria as atenções internacionais para a ditadura salazarista.

As coisas começaram a complicar-se quando o navio foi avistado por um cargueiro dinamarquês, que avisou a guarda costeira americana. Daí até à chegada dos navios de guerra foi um ápice. Vendo que tudo estava perdido, Henrique Galvão decidiu rumar ao [[Recife]] e render-se às autoridades brasileiras, pedindo asilo político, que foi aceite.
